NFRA has distributed 75,282 tons of food in 89 councils with food shortages

The Minister of Agriculture Hussein Bashe today gave a speech on the Ministry’s Estimated Income and Financial Expenditure for the year 2023/2024 in Parliament Dodoma where he said the Ministry through NFRA has distributed 75,282.302 tons of food in 89 councils with food shortages and sold at a price between Tsh . 680 to 920 per kilo compared to the market price of Tsh. 1,200 to 1,500”

Reading the speech, Bashe said “The Comprehensive Assessment of the Food and Nutrition Situation has revealed that there is a shortage of production in some areas for the 2021/2022 season that resulted from the effects of climate change and thus led to an increase in the price of some food crops”

“In order to deal with the situation, the Ministry through the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), has distributed 75,282.302 tons of food in 89 Councils with food shortages and sold at a price between 680 and 920 shillings per kilo compared to and the market price of 1,200 to 1,500 shillings”

“In order to deal with food shortages, the Government continues to increase its capacity to store food from the current 251,000 tons to 506,000 tons, although the Government has currently started feasibility studies to build a storage infrastructure that will increase the storage capacity to 3,000,000 tons by the end of the year 2030”

“The goal is to ensure that our nation has the ability to store food for six (6) months in the event of a disaster in order to protect our economy, our dignity, our dignity and our freedom”
